This video isn’t about desktops or features. It’s about answering one question:
What is the best Linux gaming setup when everything is pushed through GameScope, the way Valve intends?
To make it fair, all three systems use the same WOPR v3 Games Launcher, now updated with:
• Multi-monitor support
• Ultrawide & unusual aspect-ratio detection
• Auto-install of all gaming dependencies
• Support for AMD / NVIDIA / Intel Arc
• Super + Shift + S → Launch GameScope
• Super + Shift + R → Exit GameScope
This launcher is the most important part of the video. The benchmarks simply show what happens once you remove the desktop compositor entirely.
⸻
🔹 Why GameScope Matters
• Never benchmark inside GNOME, KDE, Hyprland, Sway, etc.
• Steam games are designed to run inside GameScope
• Bazzite Decci, CachyOS Decci, and Omarchy WOPR all launch straight into GameScope
• This removes compositor overhead and shows real system performance
⸻
🔹 Games Tested (All at 1440p)
Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultra, no RT, no Frame Gen)
• Omarchy: 88 FPS
• CachyOS: 102 FPS
• Bazzite: 104 FPS
Returnal (Epic, FSR)
• CachyOS: 109 FPS
• Omarchy: 93 FPS
• Bazzite: 108 FPS
Homeworld 3 (Epic)
• Bazzite: 53 FPS
• CachyOS: 53 FPS
• Omarchy: 46 FPS
Borderlands 3 (High)
All distros show heavy stutter.
• CachyOS: 66 FPS
• Bazzite: 80 FPS
• Omarchy: 70 FPS
Doom (Ultra Nightmare)
• Bazzite: 32 FPS
• CachyOS: 57 FPS
• Omarchy: 41 FPS
⸻
🔹 Key Takeaways
• There is no single winner — all three are solid performers
• CachyOS kernel genuinely improves several games
• Bazzite often matches or beats CachyOS despite using a different stack
• Omarchy performs well but lags slightly due to the stock kernel
• Borderlands stutters on every Linux distro
• Doom behaves oddly — likely GameScope behaviour
• Kernel choice is often more important than the distro
⸻
🔹 What’s Next
Your next video will introduce a new tool:
A kernel switcher for Omarchy that safely toggles between the CachyOS kernel and the stock Arch kernel.
This gives Omarchy users the performance of CachyOS with the workflow and polish of Omarchy.
⸻
🔹 Final Thoughts
You don’t want Bazzite’s immutable system.
You don’t want CachyOS’s KDE desktop.
You do want Omarchy’s workflow — but with optional performance kernels.
This benchmarking proves that kernel choice matters, and your kernel switcher will bring the best of all worlds to Omarchy users.
