Candido 800 – Mystery Film Stock with Halation!

In this video, we take a look at Candido 800, a film stock that seems to be a bit of a mystery. While there’s speculation online that it’s re-rolled Kodak Vision3 500D with the remjet layer removed, I can’t say for sure. What I do know is that it has a fair amount of halation, giving it a distinct cinematic glow.

For this test, I shot the Candido 800 at box speed (ISO 800) on the Minolta 9. The results? Interesting tones, strong highlights, and that dreamy halation effect. But what exactly is this film? If you know more about it, drop a comment and let me know!

Key Observations on Candido 800

✅ Noticeable Halation – Highlights have a soft, glowing effect, similar to CineStill film.
✅ Possible Kodak Vision3 500D Base? – Some sources suggest it’s re-rolled Vision3 without remjet, but that’s unconfirmed.
✅ Shot at Box Speed (ISO 800) – Used a Minolta 9, and the results show solid contrast and color rendering.
✅ Unique Look – Has a cinematic quality, potentially great for low-light or high-contrast scenes.

Final Thoughts

Candido 800 is a bit of an enigma, but that’s what makes it interesting. Whether it’s rebranded Kodak stock or something else, the halation and color rendering give it a distinctive look that might appeal to film photographers looking for something different.
