Fix Broken Omarchy Installs with Built-In AI + Full Backup & Restore Workflow
Every time Omarchy gets an update, the same thing happens.
Every time Omarchy gets an update, the same thing happens.
Something breaks.
Hyperland throws errors.
Key bindings change.
Git discussions explode.

And most people screenshot the problem and start posting everywhere hoping someone fixes it.
In this video, I show you why you don’t need to do that anymore.
Omarchy has something built in that most people either don’t know about or don’t use properly — and it can fix a broken Hyperland config in seconds.
Then I show you the second layer of protection: a lightweight backup and restore workflow so you can rebuild your entire working environment after a clean install in minutes.
⸻
🔹 Part 1 – Fixing Omarchy with AI (The Fast Way)
I deliberately break Hyperland on a fresh install.
Instead of hunting through config files manually, I:
• Use the built-in Omarchy “skill” inside Claude
• Drag the error screenshot straight into it
• Let it analyse the config
• Apply the fix
• Reload the configuration
System fixed.
No forums.
No waiting.
No guessing.
If Hyperland syntax changes or a migration fails during an update, this approach gets you back up and running almost instantly.

🔹 Part 2 – Proper Backup & Restore (Red Pill Update)
I’ve updated my original “Red Pill” script into a more complete backup tool.
What it does:
• Backs up configs
• Backs up user data (Documents, Downloads, Video, etc.)
• Uses incremental snapshots
• Stores symbolic links correctly (Linux filesystems only – no NTFS / exFAT)
• Includes a standalone restore script on the backup drive
You can:
• Backup configs only
• Backup user data only
• Backup everything
• Enable optional auto-backup on shutdown
• Restore to a fresh Omarchy install in minutes
Important notes covered in the video:
• Use the same username when restoring
• Backup drive should be encrypted
• First backup is the largest — after that it’s incremental
• Apps must be reinstalled (data and configs are restored)
I demonstrate restoring over 170GB of data to a clean Omarchy install and returning to the same theme, key bindings, and working environment.

🔹 Why This Matters
Arch-based systems aren’t “fragile.”
They just expect you to know how to recover.
With:
• AI-assisted troubleshooting
• Proper config backups
• Incremental snapshots
You can experiment freely without fear.
Break it.
Fix it.
Restore it.
That’s the workflow.
