Omarchy 3.7 is called the Gaming Edition and it earns the name. Steam, RetroArch, Heroic, Lutris, Moonlight, GeForce Now, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Minecraft — all installable from the menu. But this update goes way beyond gaming. There's a unified CLI, OCR screen capture, custom lock screens, a command-line music player with Spotify integration, and kernel 7 underneath.
GAMING
The install menu now has a dedicated gaming section. Steam gets a much cleaner installation process with a proper bootstrap — similar to what I do in my Gamescope scripts but more polished. Heroic and Lutris are there for Epic, GOG, and Battle.net. RetroArch for emulation. Moonlight for streaming games from another machine on your network. GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming for cloud streaming. Minecraft. It's everything you need in one place.
No Gamescope in the base install — and I think that's the right call. Gamescope on Nvidia is still capped at 1440p with breakup above that, and supporting every hardware configuration would be a nightmare. If you want Steam Deck mode, my scripts are still on no-signal.uk and work alongside all of this.
UNIFIED CLI
Type "omarchy" in terminal and you get a full list of system commands — omarchy update, omarchy menu, omarchy reboot. Everything is predictable, repeatable, and scriptable. This matters because if you point Claude Code at your system, it can use these commands reliably. CLI is machine-readable in a way that GUIs aren't, and I think this is where things are heading with AI-driven system management.
OCR SCREEN CAPTURE
Super+Control+PrintScreen lets you select any area of screen, OCR the text, and copy it straight to clipboard. Brilliant for grabbing text from images, screenshots, or websites that block copy-paste.
CUSTOM LOCK SCREENS
Design your own boot and lock screen image. Use my colour theme generator at theme.no-signal.uk to create one, download it, run the command, and your logo appears on boot instead of the Omarchy branding. Small thing but it makes the machine feel like yours.
CLIAMP — COMMAND LINE MUSIC PLAYER
This is my favourite addition. CLIAMP is basically terminal Winamp — connects to Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, 30,000 radio stations, or your local MP3 library. It has visualisers, an equaliser, and it tiles beautifully into your Omarchy workspace. Made by the same developer behind the Atherter theming app.
OTHER BITS
Kernel 7 is now default. FRED is enabled for faster syscall execution — benefits database workloads and certain applications. Helix editor now picks up theme colours. Video-to-GIF transcoding built in. Laptop improvements continue with display mirroring, touchscreen recognition, and direct boot toggle. Ad-hoc tools for managing boot drives now included by default. GitHub PR management with ghui.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Every release of Omarchy adds something that makes you want to use your computer. That sounds obvious but it's rare. 3.7 takes the gaming side from "install it yourself" to "it's right there in the menu" while adding creative and productivity tools that make the daily experience better. The unified CLI is quietly the most important change — it's the foundation for AI-driven system management.
