DESCRIPTION:
Omarchy 4.5 — Quattro RS — is on the stable channel. I do a completely clean install on camera, set up an agent, and then whiz through everything new. And as usual it's a toy festival: per-workspace floating and scrolling layouts, offline voice dictation, a Quake-style drop-down agent terminal, a pile of new apps from DHH, Jason Fried and Toby Lütke, video backgrounds, animated themes, and — the big one — official Apple Silicon and Snapdragon builds.
THE INSTALL
One minute nine seconds. I'm not joking. On Intel and AMD the graphics drivers are in the kernel so it flies; Nvidia takes a touch longer. I've just spent 25 minutes downloading and 30 minutes installing the latest macOS update on my M2, so I've proposed a new unit of time: how many Omarchy installs can you do while you wait. That update was 30 Omarchy installs. Some base packages have been trimmed (Kdenlive and OBS are no longer default) and the installer drops you straight into agent setup — pick Claude or Codex and it pulls it down for you.
WORKSPACES THAT CHANGE PERSONALITY
Each workspace can now be tiling, scrolling, or old-school floating windows with a bottom taskbar and one-click organise. If you're coming from Windows or Mac and the tiling scares you, this is for you. I personally can't stand floating windows — my business partner's desktop is a layer cake of them — but I've already used it: four terminals up, something buried, flip to floating, deal with it, flip back. Malleable computer, do what you like.
SUPERWHISPER DICTATION
Built-in voice dictation with an offline mode and vocabulary learning. My push-to-talk binding didn't work because UK keyboards map right Alt to AltGr, so I just told the agent — it loaded the SuperWhisper skill and fixed it. I'm dyslexic and talk far faster than I type, so shouting at my agent instead of typing is a godsend. If you follow my X feed you know there's a spelling mistake a day; prizes may be reduced.
NEW APPS
Hype — DHH's presentation tool from his Pencils Down talk at Rails World. Agent-driven: I dictated "make me a presentation on coffee" and it did. Spartan compared to my OmaShow, but that's the point.
Signed — PDF signatures, self-explanatory.
Disk Tree — Toby Lütke's drive-usage visualiser. Drill into folders and find the ten 10GB VMs you forgot about. Themed, of course.
Monologue — DHH's recorder.
World Clock — Jason Fried's. Assign people to cities so you always know what time it is for them. My business partner is in Melbourne this week; Wellington didn't work, I posted on X, he fixed it. Why has a Mac never had this?
Glyph — remote desktop for Hyprland, now official. I built a Glyph manager plugin that works over Tailscale, including a Mac version, so when an agent pops a password dialog on another machine I can just deal with it. Link below.
THE AGENT PANEL
Click Theme, Plugin or App and it loads the right skill and interviews you. I said "deep ocean, dark" and it built a theme with a choice of wallpapers while I was still talking. The app skill is all C++ — who needs Rust — and it's a proper kickstarter for imagination. Every app I've built started with pointing an agent at DHH's repos and saying "learn from this".
EVERYTHING ELSE
New themes — Hackerman, Jade Horse (the China trip one), Tom's Starship. Animated theme intros on about half of them. Video backgrounds. Rebuilt notifications. Captive-portal Wi-Fi detection. Monitors get their own workspaces. Plugin transparency and a no-animation mode. Kernel switching. Hotkey changes — all on the README. Herd now has a desktop app worth a look.
THE MAC THING
Omarchy on Apple Silicon is phenomenal and gets its own video. The missing piece is hardware video encoding — Macs can decode but not encode on Linux yet, and ProRes acceleration is the whole reason content creators bought into Apple. Someone's started on the encoders; I've started on ProRes. If I get that working, OmaEdit ships with an ARM build and there is nothing left on the table.
If you've got a Snapdragon device going spare, my mailbox is open.
