Omarchy OS is already one of the best-looking Linux distributions out there — with its Hyprland desktop, slick animations, and customizable themes. But one thing it doesn’t do (until now) is let you have a different wallpaper on each workspace.
So, I wrote a simple Omarchy Workspace Wallpaper script that lets you assign a unique wallpaper to every workspace. It’s lightweight, easy to install, and adds a personal touch to your Hyprland setup.

🔹 What’s Covered in This Video

• How the Hyprland tiling window manager handles wallpaper and themes.
• Installing the Omarchy Workspace Wallpaper script:
• Downloading the script from the description.
• Running it with chmod +x permissions.
• Entering how many workspaces you want to customize (up to 10).
• Selecting wallpapers from your Pictures folder.
• Rebooting the system and seeing each workspace load its own wallpaper.

💡 Why This Script Exists
Hyprland and Omarchy OS are incredibly customizable — but they’re also minimal by design.
For people like me who love wallpapers and visual detail, it felt strange having every workspace look the same. This script adds a bit of flair and fun to Omarchy’s clean aesthetic without needing to modify core files.
Whether you want each workspace themed around a project, color palette, or mood, this script makes it possible.
⸻
🔹 Script Details
• Works on Omarchy OS 3.1 and above.
• Compatible with the default Alacritty terminal (may need tweaks for other terminals).
• Assigns wallpapers to numbered workspaces (1–10).
• Requires a reboot on first install; updates apply instantly after that.
• Fully local – no external dependencies except feh and core Hyprland tools.
• Open-source friendly: you can improve it using ChatGPT or Claude!
⸻
🧠 Tips & Troubleshooting
• Place all your wallpapers in your Pictures directory before running the script.
• You can rerun the app anytime to replace or reassign wallpapers.
• If transitions look harsh, use a neutral “blank” image (white or themed color) as your in-between frame.
• Always test new scripts on a spare drive or backup install (just in case).
⸻
🎨 Bonus
I’ve also uploaded a set of my custom Omarchy wallpapers and thumbnails (with and without the logo) — feel free to download them and theme your desktop however you like.
They’re designed to work with Omarchy’s Tokyo Night and Flexa Light themes for a consistent look.
⸻
💬 Final Thoughts
Omarchy OS gives you the perfect balance between control and creativity — and this little addition makes it even more personal. It’s a small tweak, but it completely changes how your workspace feels.
If you enjoy theming, wallpapers, or just want to make Omarchy look like your own, give this a try — and share your setups in the comments.
