For years I've been building separate DaVinci Resolve installers — Nvidia for Omarchy, AMD for Omarchy, Intel Arc for Omarchy, plus versions for Mint, openSUSE, Ubuntu, and CachyOS. Now, thanks to Quattro's plugin system and QML, I've combined the lot into one universal installer plugin. Any GPU, free or Studio, detected automatically, installed from a panel in your bar. This is the video I've wanted to make for a very long time.

But first — the news, because it's been another mad week.
OMARCHY NEWS
Two more patrons joined including 1Password and 37signals itself, then more piled in — the foundation has passed £13 million. Omarchy has surpassed 200,000 downloads. The project hired its first employee — a kernel developer working on compatibility, performance, and security, with optimised kernel work already appearing on the edge branch. Community funding opened to everyone with badge tiers, raising over £4 million to spend across three years. And the token donations are wild — £2 million of tokens from Anthropic, £1.5 million from Meta Superintelligence Labs, plus free tokens from OpenAI and Fireworks to fuel agent-driven development on the OmaBot.
THE UNIVERSAL RESOLVE INSTALLER
Why Resolve matters: it's the only genuinely industry-standard professional creative package on Linux. Around 80% of films are graded in it, and in the UK broadcast world you need an Apple-passed ProRes encoder — FFmpeg won't cut it. Resolve is the only consumer route to that on Linux. The Studio version is £299 and worth every penny; the free version is a solid way in with real limitations.
The plugin detects your GPU and handles everything:
Nvidia — full CUDA acceleration, anything RTX is golden.
AMD — pins ROCm to 7.1.1 (newer versions break Resolve), works on RX 9000 series, possibly 7000s. Expect OpenCL lag when effects first load. If the ROCm download fails, just rerun — it's your connection, not the script.
Intel Arc — B-series and possibly A-series discrete cards, including the B390 in those Dell XPS laptops. Better than AMD, oddly. No Iris Xe iGPUs.
Tested on my hybrid laptop too — RTX 3060 with an AMD chip — so laptops work.
WHAT'S BAKED IN
The audio loop fix for the virtual ALSA render hang. UI scaling guidance (set 200% on first launch or enjoy microscopic text). A film strip panel in your bar with reinstall, health checks, logs, and update handling. For Studio users — it fixes the licence folder permissions on install so your key actually goes in, and on updates it preserves your licensing folder instead of obliterating it, so you don't re-enter your serial every time.
THE AAC FIX
Neither version of Resolve can decode AAC audio on Linux — licence restrictions. Drop in iPhone footage and you get silence. The installer adds an AAC Fix script to the Workspace menu (Studio only, since the free version has no scripting access): scan your media pool, click fix all, and it rewraps and converts your clips with 24-bit audio in place. For big jobs, convert everything beforehand with my NoCoder plugin instead.
Update demo included — I update my own work machine from beta build 20 to the latest Studio live, licence intact.
The plugin is on my Git now and heading to the plugin store once it clears security review. Issues and PRs on the repo please. And who knows — with Quattro as a canvas and agents at hand, maybe an editor of my own is coming one day.
