In this video, I show you how to set up a DaVinci Resolve workstation on Rocky Linux 10 in about 15 minutes. Blackmagic provides an official Linux installer, but the ISO image for Rocky 8.6 is outdated and doesn’t work with the latest DaVinci Resolve 20.2. Until they update it, the easiest way to get Resolve working on Rocky 10 is by using a set of custom scripts I’ve written — and I’ll walk you through the entire process step by step.
you can find the script in the project section of my site
If you’ve ever struggled with Linux workstation setups for video editing, this guide makes it straightforward. With just three scripts, you’ll install NVIDIA drivers, Microsoft core fonts, and DaVinci Resolve itself, turning a clean Rocky Linux 10 install into a fully functional professional editing machine.

🔹 Why Rocky Linux 10?
Rocky Linux has become the successor to CentOS, built from RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux). It’s designed for long-term stability, making it an excellent foundation for creative workstations. The problem is that Blackmagic’s ISO is outdated — so this process is the best way to get Resolve 20.2 running cleanly right now.
⸻
🔹 What’s Covered in This Video
• Fresh install of Rocky Linux 10 Workstation
• Hardware used: Ryzen 9 CPU, NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti (6GB VRAM), 32GB RAM, 1TB Gen4 SSD
• Using Ventoy USB installer to boot Rocky 10
• Step-by-step workstation setup (clean install recommended)
• Adding root account and user during setup
• Installing NVIDIA drivers (580 series) via script — supports RTX 2000 and newer
• Why the script pulls in CUDA packages for GPU compute support
• Installing Microsoft Core Fonts to avoid font-related crashes when moving projects between Windows/Mac and Linux
• Installing DaVinci Resolve 20.2 (Free and Studio editions supported)
• Fixing UI scaling on 4K monitors (Resolve Free doesn’t auto-scale)
• Launching Resolve and confirming full GPU acceleration
⸻
🔹 Why Core Fonts Matter
One of the most common issues when moving Resolve projects between platforms is missing fonts (e.g., Arial, Verdana). On Linux, this can cause rendering crashes. Installing Microsoft core fonts avoids those headaches and makes cross-platform collaboration smooth.

🔹 Scripts Included
The video links to my installer pack, which includes:
- NVIDIA Driver Installer Script – Adds Rocky 10 repo and installs latest drivers + CUDA support.
- Core Fonts Installer Script – Installs Microsoft fonts for project stability.
- Resolve Installer Script – Installs DaVinci Resolve (ensure the ZIP is placed in your Downloads folder).

💡 Why This Matters
With gaming on Linux now mainstream (thanks to Proton, SteamOS, and distros like Bazzite), it’s time for creative tools to shine on Linux as well. This video shows you how easy it can be to get DaVinci Resolve 20.2 running smoothly on Rocky Linux 10 — turning open-source infrastructure into a professional-grade workstation OS.
