THE FIRST LONDON OMARCHY MEETUP
Organised by Tunde, and genuinely good. I gave a presentation on the OmaTools apps, there were other great speakers, and DHH sent a video message. Hoping for another in November — if you're in London, keep an eye out and come along.
OMARCHY NEWS
The Primeagen has joined Omarchy as agentic lead QA. Brilliant programmer, very funny channel, ex-Netflix — and a genuinely great person to have stabilising the project's QA and merge process.
They're also sponsoring OX Zero, who works on local AI. This matters — the dream is having something clever like Fable or Astra do your planning, then grind locally without burning cloud tokens. Setting that up is fiddly for most people, so having someone dedicated to it inside Omarchy is a big deal.
And Cloudflare have committed £3 million over three years. The backing keeps piling in.
DHH AT RAILS WORLD
His keynote about stopping manual programming and moving to agents ruffled a lot of feathers. I put it to my business partner Jane, a concert pianist — imagine spending fifteen years learning piano and being told a machine can just do it now. Her reaction was horror. That's exactly the pushback developers feel, and it's understandable. But the genie is out of the bottle, and if you've got 25 years of programming knowledge you're miles ahead of anyone just vibing — you know what you're actually building.
OMANTA — THE FILE MANAGER
Nautilus is reliable and brilliant, but it's 13MB, unthemeable, and an external dependency. Mine is about 3MB, written in C++, and fully themeable — switch your Omarchy theme and it follows. Sorting options, expandable links, background opacity, previews, list and grid views, network locations, and all the Omarchy right-click hooks including send-by-LocalSend and transcode. You can set it as default or flip back to Nautilus whenever you like. No Nautilus plugin ecosystem — just what we actually use in Omarchy, fast and small.
OMASHOW — PRESENTATIONS
This is what I used for the London talk. Full presentation app — text, shapes, images, tables, diagrams, video, transitions, animations, presenter mode with speaker notes over HDMI, and PowerPoint/Keynote import. Spellchecker built in.
But here's the difference. It installs a Claude skill alongside it. So you can say "make me a presentation about coffee with OmaShow, get nice pictures, use snazzy transitions" and it builds the entire deck — finds images, picks fonts, writes speaker notes, the lot. Drop in a script and images and tell it the target length and it assembles the whole thing.
That's the gap I wanted to close. Tools like Claude Design produce great output but you can't go in and nudge one line of text without re-prompting. With OmaShow the AI does the donkey work, then you open the file and tweak it like any normal app. In the demo it dropped a stray character into a slide — I just clicked in and deleted it. Try that with a pure prompt-based tool.
WHAT'S NEXT
OmaRaw, the Lightroom equivalent, next weekend. Then OmaVector, OmaImage, OmaEdit — each getting a full week of testing before it ships. And someone's asked me to reskin Natron, the 2D visual effects package, into the suite. That's on the list.
